scholarship Foundation Roots

The Oregon Telecommunications Association Board of Directors established the Scholarship Foundation in 1995 to offer scholarships to the employees and immediate families of Association members to assist in the pursuit of furthering their education in college,

university or trade school. Since 1995 the Foundation has awarded over 216 scholarships totaling $245,250.00! Each year during the association’s Annual Conference, the Foundation holds its annual silent auction and raffle followed by a banquet dinner, where the proceeds continue to help fund this valuable program. When you contribute to the OTA Scholarship Foundation, you are contributing to the future of our employees and their families. Thank you for your continual support!

Each year, the Foundation opens up the application period around the end of January and closes the candidate pool at the end of March. Applicants are reviewed and scored on academics, education and career goals, school activities and/or community contributions and a personal statement.

In addition to the regular scholarships, the Foundation has the ability to offer an award (or awards) to students that have persevered through adversity or maybe taken non-traditional paths in their lives. A memorial scholarship award was created by the Foundation to honor the memory of one of the cornerstones of the OTA Scholarship Foundation, Diane Coleman. Diana served as a past Chairman and Director for over 15 years. Involved from its inception, Diana was instrumental in starting the organization. She lost her battle with cancer late in 2013 and will be forever remembered as a champion of this cause and as someone who never failed to consider those who, through adversity and diversity overcame and beat the odds!
