Why & How – Our Mission
Greetings!
We are excited to announce that we have changed our name from the Oregon Telecommunications Association to the Oregon Broadband Association.
The Oregon Broadband Association began in 1915, with some accounts indicating that it might have been operating for several years prior. Originally organized to represent small telephone companies operating in rural and remote Oregon, our core mission has not changed despite the change to our name.
That mission is as follows: to promote and advocate for the expansion of telecommunications services, with a greater focus on broadband access and adoption throughout Oregon. We believe our new name will help policymakers better understand this goal and who the association stands for. While a core set of our members are still rural telephone companies at heart, they have transformed into the providers of high-speed broadband access that their customers deserve and desire as is the case of our Cooperatives with their own members, as well. Our newer members offer those same high-speed broadband services while utilizing differing technologies and business models. Regardless, all our members are devoted to offering these services in the best manner possible.
Changing the name of an organization like the Orgon Broadband Association is never an easy undertaking. However, our Board of Directors and our members are dedicated to continuing the advocacy and representation of our interests the same way we always have⦠with the best interests of our customersand communities as the highest priority.
I am happy to answer any questions you might have about this change. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Brant Wolf
